EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN: Update Supply Chain Situation

Dear Valued Customer,

Following the tragic events in Japan we are closely monitoring the effect on the supply chain, manufacturing and logistics from our franchise partners.

All vendors who operate factories in Japan are currently assessing the impact on their manufacturing process. Although a supplier may not be physically impacted, it is likely there will be logistics challenges outside of our control in the short term. The extent of disruptions will become more and more evident over the next few days.

We are also working closely with the affected suppliers to understand their plans in order to minimize the impact on their deliveries to us. You can rest assured that we do our very best to mitigate the consequences of the supply chain disruption. Your Avnet sales representative will be in contact with you to inform you on further developments.

In light of these devastating events we would like to extend our sincere condolences to all those that have been affected.

Best Regards,

Patrick Zammit
(President Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA)

"MSPD fully understands and appreciates your concern about the supply situation following the devastating earthquake in Japan last week. I assure you that we are doing our utmost to obtain sufficient information with which we can assess the supply risk for products we supply to your company. We can tell you that we do not source wafers from foundry's in Japan, however, raw wafers and virtually every raw material  used in the back-end packaging of our products, and those of our peers in the industry, is sourced from Japan."

In regard to possible impacts on our ability to source components for our production, we try to accumulate data not just from the 1st level suppliers but also the 2nd and 3rd tier raw material suppliers out of Japan which has been challenging and changing on a daily basis.  The situation is dynamic and we expect frequent changes in our view of component supply availability over the next month.   We do not expect significant component issues from now through the end of April, however visibility from May out is uncertain from a number of suppliers.  For parts we believe may be at risk,  we continue to review alternative sources to minimize any impacts in case of shortages.   We thank you for your patience through this difficult period and will continue to provide updates as the picture becomes clearer.
