Avnet Memec adds new device from Maxim to its product range
Poing, December 1st, 2008
Avnet Memec, the highly specialised semiconductor distributor of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, extends its portfolio with the MAX13448E ±80V fault-protected, full-duplex RS-485 transceiver from Maxim Integrated Products. Capable of withstanding shorts up to ±80V on the RS-485 interface pins, this device eliminates the need for external fault-protection circuitry, typically polyswitch limiters and zener diodes. The transceiver prevents data from being transmitted during a fault condition, and then resumes normal operation after the fault condition has been removed.
This integrated fault protection is useful in architectures such as USB and CAN in which power and data are transmitted along the same cable. The MAX13448E is ideal for industrial, HVAC, and motor-driver control systems.
This robust transceiver is slew-rate limited to reduce EMI and reflections on the data bus. It thus allows error-free data transmission at up to 500kbps with a +5V supply, and 250kbps with a +3.3V supply, in environments with high levels of radiated noise. Additionally, hot-swap capability eliminates false transitions on the bus during power-up or hot insertion. It offers ±8kV ESD protection per the Human Body Model.
The MAX13448E operates from a +3.3V to +5V supply. Fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range, it is available in a 14-pin SO package.
