Steve Haynes leads Specialist Distributor Avnet Memec EMEA

Munich, November 15, 2005

Steve Haynes, one of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA most successful executives, was named today as President of Avnet Memec EMEA, the newly founded semiconductor specialist distributor. Haynes succeeds Franz Zimmermann, who retires by the end of 2005 due to unexpected health problems.

Axel Hartstang, President of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, said: “Steve Haynes is one of our most respected executives in Avnet and definitely the right man to lead the new company from its start. Avnet Memec EMEA has a clear vision and strategy of high technology introduction and needs a team leader who knows customers and suppliers requirements inside out.

Steve Haynes joined Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA in 1999 as Vice President Sales and took the leadership role of Avnet Supply Chain Services in 2001, when Avnet EM reorganised its European operations to the well-known speedboat model. With SCS, Haynes built concepts of cost-optimised distribution and logistics for large global accounts and played a key role in helping to drive Avnet’s internal process development further.

Prior to being with Avnet, Steve Haynes spent many years in the semiconductor industry. He worked in various sales and marketing roles for RCA, GE and Intersil and returned to Europe from Florida, USA, where he was World Wide Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Harris Semiconductor.

Steve Haynes commented on his new role: “The creation of Avnet Memec EMEA is a significant decision for Avnet. New technology introduction at the highest level of what the semiconductor industry offers puts Avnet Memec EMEA at the forefront of distribution. It proves that Avnet is more than logistics and that entrepreneurial risk-taking for the benefit of customers and suppliers is not limited to small businesses. I am proud to have been chosen for this task.

Haynes will lead an organisation of more than 200 employees, the majority of which are engineers or technical sales people. Avnet Memec EMEA represents more than 50 very innovative technology suppliers, including NEC, Linear Technology, Silicon Laboratories, Lattice Semiconductor and many others. The new company is pan-European, present in all major markets, including Eastern Europe and Turkey.
