Allegro ACS760 240V*A Hot Swap Protection & Current Sense IC

Eliminating the need for an external current sense resistor, the ACS760 is a 240V*A protection device that provides a fully integrated solution for hot swap power supplies. Using an integrated 1,5mΩ copper conductor and Hall effect current sensor, load currents up to 30A can be accurately measured. Power supply bus and ground potentials are measured with two dedicated (differential) pins. Voltage and current are then processed by a multiplier and compared, with high accuracy and temperature stability. If the 240 V*A switchpoint is exceeded, the FAULT output becomes active (delay set by external cap). Short circuit detection and external MOSFET failure are also built in, with rise time (during power-up or hot swap conditions) equally settable by an external cap. This device was designed to meet UL60950 requirements.

Features & Benefits

  • Analog current sensing without sense resistor
  • 1.5 mΩ internal conductor resistance
  • Analog output voltage (factory trimmed for gain and offset) proportional to applied current
  • Internal V*A multiplier and 240 V*A threshold circuit factory trimmed for maximum accuracy
  • Internal comparator (with user adjustable delay) trips when power supply load > 240 V*A max.
  • User controlled 30 – 40 A short circuit current comparator with user adjustable delay.
  • Fault indicator output signal (FAULT)
  • Internal charge pump drives external n-channel MOSFET
  • Detects faulty or damaged external MOSFET (S1 Short)
  • Device isolates failed supply from output in < 2 μs
  • User controlled soft start / hot-swap function
  • Logic enable input pin
  • 10.8 to 13.2 V, single-supply operation
