HIGH SPEED/LOW NOISE HALL-EFFECT CURRENT SENSOR

Allegro has announced the next generation in Hall Effect current sensing technology. The ACS756 is a low noise, open loop current sensor with a 125kHz bandwidth capability. The enhanced accuracy and speed make this device suitable for a variety of 50A to 100A applications. This new device takes advantage of the low loss leadframe of the “CA” package and the fast response capability of an integrated core. Again the propagation delay has been brought down, to about 1.6µs.

The ACS756 also has an internal electrostatic shield. The electrostatic shield effectively shunts the effects of voltage transient spikes around the silicon and minimizes the voltage ripple on the output of the device, resulting in less than 9mVpp measured noise. Accuracy over temperature has again been improved over the full operating temperature range from previous generations, minimizing drift. And the 3kV galvanic isolation coupled with a 130µOhm sense-path resistance are still unmatched.

Additionally, the operating voltage range has been expanded from 3.0V to 5.0V.

The overall result is a high performance current sensing solution suitable for motor and inverter control, power supply control and protection, and other applications requiring high side current sensing.
