AppliedMicro’s PQX Provides World’s Highest Density Framer/PHY

AppliedMicro announced the PQX family, the industry’s highest density, lowest power 10G/40G Optical Transport Network (OTN) framer/PHY System-On-a-Chip (SoC) for Carrier Ethernet router and WDM transport systems. With 60 Gigabits of total capacity, the PQX is a key enabler for telecom and datacom customers to deploy next generation 100G systems and cloud computing applications.

To transport increasing volumes of content-rich Ethernet traffic, telecom carriers and datacom service providers are quickly adopting OTN technology as the common transport protocol to achieve network convergence and reduce capital expenditures. AppliedMicro’s PQX incorporates the latest 10G and 40G telecom and datacom standards providing flexibility for either multiple 10G ports or single 40G port systems.

The PQX will be available in two configurations: PQ50 with 50G worth of multi-protocol/ OTN transport capability and PQ60 with 60G worth of Carrier-Ethernet processing capability. Both are available in a 35 mm x 35 mm, FC-PGBA package. General availability of PQX development release samples is scheduled for July
2010.

PQ50 – S50101 5x 10Gbps/1x 40Gbps Telecom OTN Framer/Mapper/MUX with Tri-FEC PQ50 is a highly-integrated VLSI device designed to carry 5x 10G or 1x 40G multi-service signals by using OTN standard in Metro and Long Haul networks. It is ideal for both Carrier-Ethernet Router and DWDM Transport systems as this device can be used either as a simple multi-channel PHY device with FEC capability, supporting pure 10GbE LAN/IPoDWDM, or as a highly integrated Framer/FEC device, supporting SONET/SDH/WAN/OTN via its rich suite of OTN mapping modes.

PQ60 – S60101 6x 10Gbps/1x 40Gbps Carrier Ethernet LAN/WAN/OTN Framer/Mapper/PHY with Tri-FEC is a highly-integrated VLSI device designed for carrying 6x 10G or 1x 40G Ethernet services by using IEEE802.3 in LAN/WAN environment or by using OTN standard in Metro and Long Haul networks. It is ideal for Carrier-Ethernet Switch/Router and DWDM systems as this device can be a simple multi-channel PHY layer device, supporting pure 10GbE LAN Carrier-Ethernet networks, as well as a highly integrated Framer/FEC device, supporting WAN/OTN network via its rich suite of 10GbE over WAN and OTN mapping modes.
