Cirrus Logic’s newest multichannel codecs are the CS424xx family -- the most integrated multichannel codecs currently on the market with up to 6 A/Ds and 8 D/As.

These products are ideally targeted for the automotive market, such as DSP based amplifiers and telematics, as well as pro-audio applications like effects processors, audio interfaces and consumer applications such as DVD receivers and AV receivers.

The CS424xx family supports 24 bit resolution and up to 192 kHz sample rates. It offers automatic sample rate detection, which automatically detects the incoming frequency and configures appropriate filtering in the part, without any outside intervention. The CS424XX is the only codec family that offers up to 6 A/Ds. With this high degree of integration, Cirrus eliminates the need for external components and simplifies systems design.

This family of devices can be split into two groups, the CS4243x and CS42448/CS42888. The CS4243x group has TDM-only interface, with 4 to 6 A/D and 6 to 8 D/A channels. The CS42448 and CS42888 have TDM and PCM interfaces, with 4 to 6 A/D and 8 D/A channels.  The flexible designs allows for easy addition of more channels and/or S/PDIF interfacing. With a dynamic range up to 108dB and THD+N up to 98dB, these CODECs make an excellent choice in price/performance. Both groups are in pin-to-pin compatible packages, 52MQFP and 64LQFP respectively.
