New Apex Power IC Houses 4 Independent 1A Amplifiers in Space-Saving PSOP
The PA162 is the newest high current power operational amplifier to be released under the Apex Precision Power brand. This device is designed using two dual power operational amplifier ICs in a single PSOP.
In short, the PA162 houses 4 amplifiers in one small package, and can deliver 1.0A per channel in for example driving stepper motors.
Each of the PA162's four amplifiers can be operated independently or in a bridge configuration. For applications requiring multiple drivers, such as 4-channel audio, the PA162 is a potentially solid fit. In addition to 1.0A of output current from each of its four amplifiers, this IC combines low quiescent current with very low THD to make the device an ideal low distortion solution for small speakers. Other key features are an extended common mode range that includes the negative rail to help facilitate the PA162's single supply operation of 5V to 40V. This makes it possible to have a ground-based input driving a single supply amplifier with ground, while the device's superior output can swing drives within 2V of both supply rails.
