Cirrus logic CS48DV2 World’s first audio DSP processor that features Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby® Volume sound-leveling technology

The CS48DV2 is the world’s first audio DSP processor that features Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby® Volume sound-leveling technology. In volume production today, the fixed-function CS48DV2 is a two-channel processor that allows listeners to set their preferred listening level and have it stay that way, regardless of the source or content. Cirrus Logic is planning additional audio DSPs that will incorporate Dolby® Volume technology for a wide variety of products, such as audio/video receivers, home-theater-in-a-box systems and stereo audio systems.
The CS48DV2 is a 32-Bit Fixed-Point, Single-Core, 150MHz Core Speed (300MACs), Programmable DSP that is being brought to market as a fixed function 2 Channel Dolby® Volume processor. The CS48BV2A serves 2.0 channels, CS48DV2B 2.1 channels, with additional multi-channel (up to 7.1) devices on the way.
Dolby® Volume improves the listening experience by leveling the volume across channels and programs while preserving the full listening experience at any volume level. It is a new audio processing technology that solves annoying loudness issues through a highly accurate model of human hearing built on more than four decades of audio research. Dolby® Volume is unique in that it measures, analyzes, and controls volume based on how humans perceive and organize sound. It reproduces any audio signal, stereo or multichannel, at any desired playback level, naturally and transparently. This is achieved from two patented features: Volume Leveler™ & Volume Modeler™.
Volume Leveler™ enables consistent volume levels at all times between channels and between program material. The viewer sets the desired loudness level, and it stays there, providing much more comfortable and enjoyable listening.
Volume Modeler™ delivers the perception of a full-range audio experience at any volume level. As volume decreases, our ears become less sensitive to the high and low-end frequency extremes. Volume Modeler™ compensates for this by dynamically adjusting the bass and treble so that listeners continue to hear all the ambience and nuance in the soundtrack.
