Intersil at Avnet Memec New Product Snap Shot

As Avnet Memec begin the new partnership with Intersil, we are excited to promote a snap shot of the new product releases and activities in the last 5 months from Intersil including:

2 Channel Bi-Directional I2C Bus Buffers

2-Channel, Bidirectional I2C Bus Buffer ICs Maximize Speed and Noise Margin in Networking, Server, and ATCA Designs. The ISL3300x series, which includes the ISL33001, ISL33002, and ISL33003, are ideal for use in servers, networking and telecommunications infrastructure equipment, and other applications that need hot swap board insertion and bus isolation. The buffer minimizes bus idle time and propagation delay, increasing maximum overall system speed. Hot swap capability prevents corruption of data and clock lines when I2C devices are plugged into live backplanes, so users can exchange boards on a live bus with no data disruption.

RS-485/RS-422 Quad Receivers

Intersil's Latest RS-485/RS-422 Quad Receivers Feature Industry's Best ESD Protection, Wide Voltage and Temperature Ranges, in Ultra-Small QFN Packages. The new ISL3217x and ISL3227x series feature wide supply-voltage operating ranges of 3V to 5.5V and extended temperature ranges to 125 degrees C, making them ideal design choices for motor controllers, encoders, factory automation, and process control networks.

The ISL32173E, ISL32175E and ISL32177E are high data-rate receivers that operate at up to 80Mbps. A maximum propagation delay skew of 8ns guarantees excellent part-to-part matching. The ISL32273E, ISL32275E and ISL32277E are reduced supply current versions that operate at data rates up to 20Mbps. Each receiver also features low input currents of ±200microAmps, and presents a one-fourth unit load to the RS-485 bus, allowing up to 128 receivers on the bus.

All of the new ICs also feature the industry's best ESD ratings, at ±16.5kV ESD protection, meeting HBM and IEC61000-4-2 standards on receiver inputs. The new ISL32177 and ISL32277 include a logic VL supply pin. The VL supply sets the switching points of the enable inputs, and the receiver output's VOH, to levels compatible with a lower supply voltage in mixed-voltage systems. This built-in voltage level translation eases operation in mixed-supply systems. Pairing the quad receivers with Intersil's ISL32172/7/9 or ISL32272/4 quad transmitters enables a full point-to-point 4-channel solution.

12-Bit 500MSPS A/D Converter Delivers Industry's Lowest Power Consumption

Intersil’s Family of new 8-, 10- and 12-bit 500MSPS analog to digital (ADC) converters. The lead product, the 12-bit, ISLA112P50IRZ 500MSPS converter, features power consumption of just 468 milliWatts - five times lower than any competing 12-bit 500MSPS ADC.

The dramatically lower power consumption enables system designers to integrate multiple ADCs in a single system without the thermal challenges normally associated with using high-speed ADCs. Moreover, the ISLA112P50's low power consumption also benefits designers targeting portable or battery powered applications by helping extend battery life without sacrificing performance.

The ISLA112P50 is the latest in Intersil's expanding family of high-speed, low-power ADCs.  Developed for broadband communications, radar, light detection and ranging (LIDAR), and data acquisition systems, the new converter is being built using Intersil's proprietary FemtoCharge technology on a standard CMOS process. The ISLA112P50 uses a pair of time-interleaved 250MSPS ADCs to generate its 500MSPS sample rate. The new IC also features the patented Intersil Interleave Engine (I2E) technology, which performs automatic fine correction of offset, gain and sample time skew mismatches between unit ADCs to ensure high performance.

Battery Charger for 1-Cell and 2-Cell Li-Ion/Li-Polymer Batteries

The new ISL9220 is based on a true switched-mode topology that ensures the highest operating efficiency and lowest power dissipation for 1-cell and 2-cell Li-ion and Li-polymer based portable applications such as smartphones and tablet computers.

The ISL9220 minimizes charge time while providing maximum power efficiency and heat reduction using synchronous pulse width modulation technology with integrated MOSFETs. The device's 1.2MHz switching frequency allows the use of small external inductors and capacitors. The device provides up to 2A charge current and charge voltage accuracy is 0.5 percent.  Programmable input current limiting is included along with programmable pre-charge and fast charge settings.

Integrated overvoltage protection on the adapter/USB power input protects both the battery and circuitry from damage due to excessive voltage on the input. A programmable safety timer is provided to terminate charging if the battery fails to charge in the programmed period.  The ISL9220 can also monitor the battery temperature and discontinue charging if the temperature becomes unsafe.
