Marvell enables ultra low power and high performances together with state of the art video codec assist: the PXA310
The PXA310 processor joins the PXA3xx processor family, as a cost-effective solution with up to 624 MHz power-efficient compute performance, hardware video acceleration, and DRM security.
Built on a low-power 90 nm process technology, the combination of low- power modes and the ability to adjust voltage and frequency dynamically on demand supports exceptional battery life in standby modes, in addition to video and audio playback and recording.
Power efficient performances up to 624MHz
The PXA310 builds on the PXA300 performances by adding hardware engines for video and JPEG acceleration, and the security/DRM (digital content rights management).
The PXA310 can burst on demand up to 624MHz; the core CPU includes 32+32 KB of instruction and data level 1 cache, and takes advantage of 256KB of internal high speed SRAM.
The power efficient design means task running at max frequency can be as energy efficient as those running at lower speed, improving battery life.
Hardware video and image acceleration for multimedia usage
The PXA310 hardware video and JPEG acceleration unit supports scaling, rotation, H264, MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and WMV9 up to VGA resolutions at 30fps, with scaling and rotation.
Camera input support includes raw sensors up to 5MP, sensors with integrated JPEG and YUV422 output; hardware video processing for conversion to YUV420 and JPEG compression keeps the core free.
The multimedia processing functions can also take advantage of the SIMD instruction set in the Intel Wireless MMX2 technology, which includes new instructions for speech and video algorithms.
Applications
- 3G imaging, video, and multimedia phones with digital TV
- Wireless enterprise devices with built-in Wi-Fi, WiBro, and WiMAX
- Embedded solutions including video telephony, video/voice over IP (VVoIP), GPS, home entry phones, digital picture frames and many more
Development tools and ecosystem
The Marvell "Zylonite" and "Littleton" development platforms are available completed with board layout designs, software, manufacturing diagnostic tools, documentation, and other items to assist customers with product evaluation and production.
To further reduce time-to-market (TTM), Marvell provides tuned and validated Windows Mobile, Windows CE, and Linux board-support packages, codecs and multimedia frameworks, OpenGL-ES 1.1 libraries, as well as optimized compilers, debuggers, and profilers.
The vast ecosystem partners supporting the Intel XScale processor and Marvell PXA3xx processor family, gives a broad choice on development tools, system modules, OS and application sw portings and more.
