The DS33M30 is the first product in a family of highly-integrated Ethernet-over-SDH/SONET (EoS) mapping devices that enable the delivery of new Carrier Ethernet services over the existing SDH optical network infrastructure. The DS33M30 provides the industry’s most compact solution for transporting Ethernet traffic over STM-1/OC-3 Optical networks, with only a 10mm x 10mm footprint. With the addition of a minimal number of external components, a complete solution from Gigabit Ethernet to STM-1/OC-3 can be implemented.

Despite the small package size, the DS33M30 is not short on features. The device performs EoS mapping of Ethernet frames from a Gigabit Ethernet interface into a STS-3c SPE or VC-4 virtual container in compliance with international EoS standards. The supported frame encapsulations include GFP-F, HDLC, cHDLC and X.86 (LAPS). The device has Ethernet OAM insert/extract capability, QoS Priority Scheduling, VLAN processing, and CIR (Committed Information Rate) policers for the delivery of variable-rate Carrier Ethernet services. The DS33M30 contains a 1000Mbps GMII Ethernet port, an Ethernet MAC, one STS-3/STM-1 SERDES port with a LVDS/LVPECL interface, one GFP-F/HDLC/cHDLC/ X.86 protocol Encapsulator, a SONET/SDH Mapper, a DDR SDRAM interface, and a local bus port for host control. The SERDES interface can be seamlessly connected to commercially available optical transceivers.

Microprocessor control is accomplished through an 8/16-bit parallel bus or SPI bus. Full software access to the SONET/SDH overhead is provided, along with status indications, counters, and programmable alarms for crucial network performance monitoring. The register space is organized to simplify the migration of management software from the popular DS33X162 family of Ethernet-over-PDH mappers.
