Maxim DS3065WP: NV SRAM with RTC
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the DS3065WP, a 1M x 8 nonvolatile (NV) SRAM module with an embedded real-time clock (RTC) and battery in a PowerCap package. Extending the memory density offered by Maxim's popular line of NV SRAM modules, the DS3065WP allows system designers to migrate from lower memory densities without major changes in PCB layout. This device is ideally suited for data-acquisition systems, point-of-sale terminals, and other applications that need to continually update and store time-stamped data.
For applications that need to continually update and store time-stamped data, battery-backed SRAM allows unlimited read-write cycles, which is not available in other forms of NV memory such as flash or EEPROM. The data storage life of battery-backed SRAM is a function of the size of the battery and the battery current demands of the SRAM, RTC, and battery switching circuit. Purchasing separate components to build a discrete solution requires dealing with multiple vendors, matching the specifications of the individual components, and possibly performing additional screening. Maxim's complete memory modules give system designers a single supply source, thus ensuring that all of the components will work together and achieve the specified battery lifetime.
The DS3065WP is offered in a lead-free, 34-pin PowerCap package, which comes as a two-piece construction that allows surface-mount processing. The base unit includes the SRAM and RTC in a PCB module that is capable of being processed using standard IR reflow. The battery and crystal are included in a cap that is installed after all temperature and washing processes are complete.
The DS3065WP is fully specified to operate over the -40°C to +85°C extended industrial temperature range. Prices start at $38.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
