MAXIM offers Highly Integrated Microcontroller as a Single-Chip Solution for Secure USB Applications
The MAXQ1010 is a small, low-cost, low-power secure microcontroller designed for security token applications and battery-powered applications where power and security are both critically important. This device integrates everything needed for secure USB applications:
- USB engine and physical interface
- Real-time clock
- In-application programmable flash
- Tamper monitoring
- Smart card UART
- Support for AES and 3DES encryption algorithms
Other communication options include SPI™, I²C, and a standard USART (universal synchronous / asynchronous receiver-transmitter). A true-hardware random-number generator (RNG) is available for general application use, such as key generation and challenge generation.
Multiple options are available for Flash memory size: 32KB, 64KB, or 128KB. The device also contains 1KB or 2KB SRAM. An additional secure key storage SRAM is instantly erased when a self-destruct input is triggered.
Device operates with a single supply voltage from 1.7V to 3.6V. Low power consumption and a super-low sleep mode (less than 1µA) allow flexibility for the MAXQ1010 to work even when away from USB power. In sleep mode, the minimum amount of circuitry is powered. Wake-up sources include external interrupts, the power-fail interrupt, a wake-up timer interrupt, and an RTC interrupt. A 6MHz Oscillator is integrated while a 12MHz external crystal is required for USB operation.
Typical applications for MAXQ1010 are USB Card Readers and One-Time Password Generator. Device is available in a TQFN-48 package (6mm x 6mm) tested in the extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
