The MSP 85xx family consists of 2 main devices MSP 8510 and MSP 8520. The MSP 8510 is for non-security applications, while the MSP8520 contains a best-in-class IPSEC block from 'SafeNET'. SMB Gateway solutions are continually under pressure to offer more functionality for example VPN/Firewall for security including UTM (Unified Threat Management) i.e. multiple protection systems including junk email, anti-virus, Intrusion detection or prevention (IDS/IPS). The MSP8520 is an ideal solution in these types of applications with the dedicated Security block. Power and performance are always key drivers when making design choices and PMC are introducing this new solution to meet these market needs. The MSP 8520 also has VoIP protocol support. PMC have an extensive road map for the MSP85xx family of products.
