Real Time Operating System (RTOS) from a leading third party vendor CMX is now available for the 78K0R

RTOSs like CMX-RTX not only provides a priority-based pre-emptive scheduler and services to run your embedded system, but also provide additional tools to configure and debug a system. A configuration tool is available to configure the RTOS for designs by specifying the number of tasks and resources required, as wells as the stack sizes if the CMX BUG or Tracker tools are being used.

Inconjunction with CMXKAware, which allows the CMX-RTX internal data structures to be displayed, providing the debugger with Task Awareness, enables to assess system performance from the OS perspective. CMXKAware is interfaced to the debugger via the OSEK Run Time Interface (ORTI). The CMX-RTX OS itself is a very compact kernel which only requires approx 1 Kbyte for the initialisation and scheduling functions, plus up to 3.7 Kbytes for all other CMX library functions.

The 78K0R 16-bit MCU offers an outstanding performance of 13 MIPs at 20 MHz and a power/performance ratio of 1.8 mW/MIPs. The 78K0R is a 3 stage pipelined RISC CPU. With 5 different packaging and 5 different Flash memory options, the 78K0R is offered from the 64-pin variant to the 144-pin variant, and with 64 Kbytes to 512 Kbytes Flash memories offered, there is no requirement to use banked memories for code that exceeds 64 Kbytes.
