
SC414/24 - 6A, 28V Synchronous Step Down Converter with 5V LDO
The SC414 and SC424 are the latest additions to the highly integrated, fully featured high current synchronous buck regulator platform, which was introduced with the announcement of the SC417/27 (10A version). They enable increased power density for space sensitive applications, high efficiency across the whole load range, and add smaller, lower cost options to the SC417/27 products for applications requiring the same benefits and features but at a lower current level.
The SC414 and SC424 have a wide input voltage range of 3V to 28V, while the output is programmable between 0.75V and 5.5V. The low resistance integrated MOSFETs (10/30mΩ low/high side) enable efficiencies >90% between 1A and 6A. Excellent efficiency can be achieved up to 96.0% at 12 to 5V @ 4A, meaning less heatsinking is required and resulting in cooler PCBs. These devices feature pseudo fixed frequency adaptive on-time control, guaranteeing very good transient response, with additional benefit that less output capacity is required.
The devices differ in their power save modes, where the SC414 employs an ultrasonic continuous conduction power save mode, and the SC424 has a regular power save available. Depending on the application, the designer can choose between no audible noise or highest light load efficiency.
An on-board fixed 5V, 150mA LDO can be used for chip bias, featuring automatic LDO crossover circuitry, providing maximum efficiency for single input operation. The overall result is a very compact solution that is easy to use with few external components, making for a very cost-effective module replacement.
