CP220X Single-Chip Ethernet controller
Silicon Laboratories' new CP220x is the industry's smallest and highest performance single-chip Ethernet controller addressing the most widely deployed local area network (LAN) technology today. In addition to the 802.3-compliant PHY and MAC, the CP220x includes 8 kB of integrated Flash memory that is factory preprogrammed with a unique 48-bit MAC address. In many cases, this eliminates the serialization step from the product manufacturing process of most embedded systems. The on-chip memory can be used to store user constants, web server content, or can be used as general-purpose non-volatile memory.
The CP220x also offers a parallel external memory interface with an operating speed of up to 30 Mbps allowing the companion MCU to execute stack or other operations much more efficiently. The stand-alone CP220x Ethernet controller can be combined with Silicon Laboratories' MCUs to create an optimized embedded solution in terms of performance and system cost.
