Precision analog interface and CAN/LIN

The C8051F58x product family is ideal for space-constrained applications in automotive environments that require precision analog interface, digital processing, and a networked serial bus (e.g. CAN or LIN).  In addition, these applications typically require high-endurance Flash based program memory and reliable operation over extended temperature and voltage ranges. The C8051F58x product family is the industry’s first 8-bit mixed-signal automotive microcontroller family that offers 128 kB of Flash, an integrated CAN to LIN gateway, no external timing components (i.e. crystal or resonator) required, in a 5x5 mm2 package. 

Some application examples include automotive sensors, transducers, body electronics, fan control, seat adjustment, window lifters, fuel tank sensors, and other point-of-control applications in the automobile.  In many cases, the Si84xx family of digital isolators is well suited to eliminate ground loops that are present in automotive CAN and LIN networks.  The pairing of the C8051F58x MCU and the Si84xx digital isolator is ideal for applications in electrically noisy environments.

C8051F580 Development Kit

The C8051F580DK is a fully functional “out-of-the-box” development tool. A unique aspect of this development board is that it has two C8051F58x devices on a single board. This enables the designer to develop a fully functioning CAN 2.0B and LIN 2.1 master/slave network with a single piece of hardware.  Furthermore, the external connector and 12 V regulator allows the designer to interface to any existing automotive network for maximum design and test flexibility.
