Silicon Labs launches fully integrated mixed-signal MCUs

USB MCUs Bundled with Existing Products Provide a Complete System Solution

Silicon Labs recently launched C8051F38x and C8051T62x/32x USB families to include 22 new products based on cost-effective Flash and one-time-programmable (OTP) technology. These new parts are fully integrated mixed-signal MCUs that provide SoC integration, eliminating the unnecessary cost and complexity associated with adding external components. Common to all these new devices are the following:

  • USB crystal-less operation to reduce cost by eliminating an external quartz crystal
  • Best-in-class integrated high precision analog functions five times faster than any competitor, thus eliminating external components to reduce PCB space
  • High-speed MCU core enabling more work in less time with reduced overall power consumption
  • A comprehensive development ecosystem with production-ready software, code examples and tools which reduce cost, simplify design and shorten development time


The new C8051F38x family is designed to be pin and code compatible with the existing C8051F34x products for easy migration.  New enhanced features have been carefully implemented to provide a more integrated cost-effective solution.  Included is an additional I²C, higher-performance ADC, better operating power consumption and additional timers.  These enhanced features enable implementation of high-performance solutions without the cost of a high-end MCU.

Alternatively, the C8051T62x OTP family addresses the cost-sensitive USB market without sacrificing performance. Features include a high-performance 48 MIPS core, an integrated charge pump for low cost programming capabilities and an optimized set of digital and analog peripherals. Implemented in a scalable family, it is now possible to select the most convenient feature set in a cost-saving small package.

Perfect applications for these new parts include portable medical, home automation systems, residential and industrial thermostats, USB dongles, smart card interfaces, GPS localizers, touch panels, sensor data loggers, weight scales, USB speakers, electronic box music, serial communication bridges, gaming devices and electronic toys.  To further a complete system solution from Silicon Labs, consider bundling these USB MCU parts with our Si84xx digital isolators, Si114x optical proximity sensors, CP240x segmented LCD driver and EZRadio and EZRadioPRO RF devices.
