Wired Communications
Wired Communication refers to the transmission of data over a wire-based communication technology. Examples include telephone networks, cable television or internet access, and fibre-optic communication. Avnet Memec suppliers offer solutions for multiple Wired Comms technologies some examples as follows:
Ethernet - is a family of computer networking technologies for local area networks (LANs) commercially introduced in 1980. Standardized in IEEE 802.3, Ethernet has largely replaced competing wired LAN technologies. Systems communicating over Ethernet divide a stream of data into individual packets called frames. Each frame contains source and destination addresses and error-checking data so that damaged data can be detected and re-transmitted. Distances of anything up to 10s of KM can be achieved depending on type of medium and Ethernet version. Avnet Memec offer solutions covering all of the following Ethernet Versions:
- 10 BaseT
- 100 BaseT
- Gigabit Ethernet (Gb Ethernet)
- 10 Gb Ethernet
Fibre Channel, SATA, PATA, SAS/NAS - are types of computer bus interface for connecting host bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disk drives and optical drives.
LonWorks - is a networking platform specifically created to address the needs of control applications. The platform is built on a protocol created by Echelon Corporation for networking devices over media such as twisted pair, powerlines, fibre optics, and RF. It is used for the automation of various functions within buildings such as lighting and HVAC; see intelligent building.
Power Line Communications (PLC) - or power line carrier (PLC), also known as power line digital subscriber line (PDSL), mains communication, power line telecom (PLT), power line networking (PLN), or broadband over power lines (BPL) are systems for carrying data on a conductor also used for electric power transmission.
Profibus - (Process Field Bus) is a standard for field bus communication in automation technology and was first promoted in 1989 by BMBF (German department of education and research). It should not be confused with the PROFINET standard for Industrial Ethernet.
Telecommunications – Avnet Memec offer solutions for telecoms including:
- Passive optical Networking (GPON/EPON)
- SLICs/SLACs
- Synchronous Ethernet/IEEE 1588
- TDM over Packet Networks (ToP, CESoP)
- SONET/SDH/T1/E1 Mappers Framers and LIUs
