Zarlink Semiconductor acquired Legerity, a leading developer and supplier of ICs for voice-over-packet applications, in August 2007. Combining the products and expertise of the two companies, Zarlink now delivers a leading portfolio of timing and synchronization and voice enhancement solutions for the access, residential and enterprise markets.

COMMUNICATIONS/NETWORKING/DATACOM 

 

Timing and Synchronization

Customers use our timing devices on line cards and timing cards in a wide range of networking equipment, from high-capacity routers, switches and DSLAMs to media gateways and PBXs. Our broad Timing and Synchronization portfolio includes:

  • Digital PLL devices for T1/E1 equipment
  • Digital PLLs and high-speed, low-jitter analogue PLL devices for SONET/SDH applications
  • Line Card Synchronisers that can generate Ethernet frequencies supporting ITU-T G.8261 Synchronous Ethernet
  • Timing-over-Packet (ToP) technology

 

Hands-Free Voice Processing

Zarlink’s voice processing technology delivers superior sound quality for hands-free equipment, including:

  • Car kits
  • Speakerphones
  • Intercom and home automation systems

 

Integrating advanced acoustic echo cancellation, noise reduction techniques and application-specific firmware and supported by design tools, our hands-free voice processing solutions minimize background noise and reduce system complexity and cost.

 

Voice Line Interface Products (Former Legerity Products)

Serving the access provider all the way to the consumer’s home telephone, Zarlink, as a result of its Legerity acquisition, now has a market-leading position through its offerings of programmable audio Codecs and voice line circuit interfaces.

  • Access Infrastructure, such as MSANs and FTTx applications
  • Residential Gateways, such as voice interfaces for DSL and Cable modems
  • Combined SLIC and SLAC (CODEC) functionality

 

Telecom Networking

Expertise that helps carriers and service providers transition from a circuit-switched to a packet-based infrastructure.

  • Low-, mid- and high-density TDM/TSI switching platforms
  • Voice Echo Cancellation
  • Single- and multi-port, feature-rich T1/E1/J1 transceiver/framer products
  • Dual tone multifrequency (DTMF) receivers and transceivers

 

Circuit Emulation Services-over-Packet (CESoP)

processors that transparently "tunnel" circuit-based TDM traffic over many types of packet network. CESoP is used at every point in the telecoms system where equipment bridges the TDM circuit switched infrastructure and the Ethernet/IP network. Example applications:

  • Leased Line support over packet network
  • Mobile Wireless Backhaul
  • CESoP over EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network)
  • Multi-Tenant Unit access concentration
  • Packet switched backplane applications
  • TDM backplane extension / expansion

Parallel Solutions
